Preview of the match between Wolves and West Ham

The fact that we got off to a rough start to the season was a topic that received a lot of attention. However, things have gone relatively smoothly through the first 11 games of the season.

Selhurst Park is not even close to being satisfactory.

We’ve only competed against one of the top seven teams in the standings, and we haven’t taken on any of the powerhouses.

Between now and Christmas, we will have a better idea of the ceiling that this group can achieve, and it all starts this weekend when they take on a very good West Ham side.

It was a bit of a no-show against Palace, and I didn’t like how we got worn down and put to sleep during that game. I thought that game was a waste of our time. If we don’t improve our performance tomorrow, we are going to get into some serious trouble.

West Ham United, of course

The Hammers finished first in both the league and the cup competitions, winning all of their matches.

At the London Stadium, Liverpool suffered their first loss in any competition just before the international break. As a result, they are now looking north in the table at the team coached by David Moyes, who are only three points behind the team in first place.

They will have every reason to believe that they are in with a fighting chance to win the League Cup now that both Manchester teams have been eliminated from contention. In the Europa League, where they have played the majority of their matches so far, they have been dominant in most of those matches.

Massive joyous celebrations following a monumental victory over Liverpool

There should be no surprise at any of this. They continued to be successful from the previous season and have continued to do so while simultaneously improving as a team.

On the other hand, there is reason to be optimistic because they have been defeated by teams from the middle of the table such as Palace, Brentford, and Southampton.

I appreciate how well the team has managed to strike a balance between quality and effort, which is not something that can be said about previous West Ham teams. They deserve our congratulations.

It is a setback for them to learn that defender Angelo Ogbonna has suffered a serious injury, which may slow down their progression given the number of matches they still have to play.

However, they still have what seems to be a solid backbone, as Zouma, Rice, and Antonio are supported by players like Bowen, Benrahma, and Soucek who have shown that they can compete successfully with the very best.

The opposite or opposing end

Some insights I picked up from reading through the pre-match thread on the Knees Up Mother Brown forum.

We are going to learn a lot about ourselves and our team as a result of this game. In terms of how intently they are concentrating, how hungry they are, and how determined they are to finish as high as we did in the table last season. It would be very typical of West Ham to pull off an upset against Liverpool, and then to go to Molineux and get our stomachs tickled there. I really hope that we’ll have the same level of drive to win as we did against Liverpool!

I watched an interesting interview with Coady a couple of weeks ago, in which he discussed how the approach of the new manager had completely shifted. They are not as laid back as they were when Nuno was in charge. They are exerting a great deal more pressure now. Coady gave off the impression that he was genuinely excited and motivated, much like how Moyes has our players performing. This season also sees the return of Jiminez. He is of the highest calibre, and in my view, he makes a significant contribution to their success. My prediction is that this is not going to be an easy game at all. Nevertheless, we have a huge population.

This is a challenging game for me to play. It is almost certain that they will attempt to counterattack and frustrate us, but if we are patient while we are in possession of the ball, similar to how we were when we played Villa, we have a chance to come away with three points. The opponent Coady faces is a quick and powerful striker. If Antonio is pumped up, he will lead us to victory in this matchup.

At their respective peaks, both teams are undeniably more powerful. However, the profit margins in the premium market are extremely slim, and if you do not have the necessary skills, you will struggle. They will probably take a passive stance while attempting to undermine our arguments. They have players who have the ability to create problems when they break the ball. Traore will almost certainly go up against Cresswell, so he needs to maintain his composure and avoid giving Cresswell any breathing room. We have to practise ruthlessness and be willing to take chances. 1-2 (Jiminez and Hwang: Dawson, Benrahma, Antonio), tense finish (Jiminez and Hwang).

In this particular circumstance, I believe Bruno will be required to make some tough choices. We attacked too slowly and with too little firepower when we played against Palace, and I’m worried that West Ham will play the same way against us when we play them.

The obvious solution is to add muscle, which is what Traore has done, and the difference is like night and day. I do not believe that we appear to be as fluid in possession when Trincao is not on the field, but I believe that Adama’s directness could be an asset here, giving them more to think about.

Using the same line of reasoning, he could think about playing Dendoncker in the middle of the field or Marcal in defence against a team that will test us in all areas of the field in order to make us more robust and nasty.

Consider the likelihoods.

Most recent outing

We were doubled again by West Ham in the most recent season, making it three straight seasons that they have accomplished this feat. It is my sincere hope that we are not attempting to achieve symmetry. At the London Stadium, it turned into a proper beating, and the final score could have been even worse than the 4-0 that it actually ended up being in what was arguably Nuno’s worst performance.

In the loss by a score of 3-2 at Molineux, Pedro missed a number of opportunities that were presented to him.

We battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the first matchup to bring the score to 3-2, and it’s possible that our efforts were sufficient to earn us a point after playing for the full 90 minutes.

Last time out, there were not many points available in the Prediction League because nobody predicted that Crystal Palace would lose 2-0 at Selhurst Park.

At the conclusion of Gameweek 11, Cannock Wolf maintains its position at the top of the overall table.
